Brainstorm Board — Live Sticky Notes for Workshops

A brainstorm on paper has a hidden cost: somebody has to type up forty sticky notes that evening, and the handwriting on nine of them is unreadable. Brainstorm Board keeps the same open, fast feeling — everyone contributes at once, nobody waits for the marker — while every idea arrives already typed and already on the wall.

The facilitator writes the question — "What stops us from reporting on time?" — and opens the board. Every phone shows the question and a text box; participants can post as many cards as they have ideas, and each card appears on the projector the moment it lands. Because everybody types in parallel, a room of thirty produces in four minutes what a round-the-table discussion would take half an hour to surface, and the quiet participants contribute as much as the loud ones.

Grouping is where the value appears. The trainer sets up named themes — "data", "approvals", "connectivity" — and moves each card into one with a tap; there is no dragging anywhere, which matters when the laptop is balanced on a lectern. The wall redraws as the grouping happens, so the room watches its own scattered ideas resolve into three or four real problems it can act on.

For sensitive sessions — feedback about management, safeguarding concerns, anything where an unfiltered wall is a risk — switch moderation on. Each new card is then held until the facilitator approves it; the poster still sees their own card marked as waiting, so it never looks like a failed send, and anything that should not be projected can be hidden with a tap and put back just as easily. The board deletes itself after seven days.
